This proposed design for Aetheris International Airport is deeply rooted in the core philosophy of UD-Studio (Ubermensch Design Studio). Guided by a vision to craft iconic structures that seamlessly merge innovation with simplicity, UD-Studio seeks to redefine contemporary architecture by moving away from sterile, conventional grids. Instead, the studio focuses on creating vibrant, living ecosystems that prioritize human connection, cognitive well-being, and empathetic design. By treating large-scale infrastructural spaces like airports as holistic micro-cities, UD-Studio deeply integrates smart technology, sustainable practices, and biophilic elements into the very fabric of the architecture. This avant-garde approach ensures that the spaces designed do far more than process high volumes of travelers; they act as inspiring, restorative environments that set entirely new benchmarks for modern architectural standards.
Design Philosophy
Inspired by the distinctive parametricism of Zaha Hadid, Aetheris International Airport is conceptualized as a seamless extension of the sky. The design abandons rigid geometry in favor of fluid, organic continuous lines that intuitively guide passenger flow. By blurring the boundaries between structural support, ceiling, and functional furniture, the terminal acts as a singular, unified organism designed to optimize natural light and evoke a sense of weightless motion.
Exterior Architecture and Canopy
- The terminal's facade and main drop-off zone are defined by a sprawling, continuous roof canopy.
- Massive, fluid columns flare upward from the ground level, branching out organically to support the vast roof structure.
- Large, petal-like skylights are integrated directly into the canopy's swooping voids, allowing abundant natural sunlight to illuminate the exterior pedestrian and vehicle zones.
- The boundary between the exterior and interior is enclosed by expansive, undulating glass curtain walls that follow the arches of the structural columns.
Interior Concourse and Circulation
- The main interior thoroughfares feature sweeping, organic columns that merge seamlessly into the ceiling without harsh right angles.
- To facilitate efficient passenger movement, automated moving walkways are positioned parallel to massive floor-to-ceiling windows, offering travelers unobstructed views of the tarmac.
- The ceiling features complex, parametric webbing with integrated, flowing strip lights and amoeba-like skylights.
- Highly reflective, smooth flooring is accented with curving, white inlaid guide lines that mirror the architectural flow above, subtly directing passengers through the space.
Gate and Passenger Experience
- The departure and waiting areas, such as Gate 24, maintain the terminal's fluid, futuristic aesthetic.
- Traditional boarding counters are replaced by monolithic, sculptural white structures that appear to grow organically directly from the floor, housing dual digital display screens for flight information.
- The ceiling in the gate areas transitions into smoother waves, punctuated by deep, recessed lighting pods.
- Passenger seating consists of sleek, minimalist metallic benches arranged to preserve the open, airy atmosphere of the gate while accommodating travelers with diverse mobility needs.
